Diaspora Open Call Submission

Diaspora is a photographic gallery dedicated to exploring the experiences of those physically displaced from their homeland and weaving this identity into a contrasting cultural tapestry. The tension of preserving one’s culture while assimilating into another is an ongoing dialogue for at least a quarter of the Florida population.

Whether it’s fleeing a dire economic situation, religious persecution, or environmental disaster, this gallery serves as a platform for stories rooted in movement, belonging, and perseverance.

At a time when society is in a pervasive state

of overlapping conversation, it is vital to provide an intentioned space for voices to be heard. Diaspora is interested in photographic work that reflects the intersectionality of all cultures and communities. We seek visual narratives that acknowledge both collective and individual experiences, honoring the complexity of cultural survival and transformation.

This open call invites photographers to submit still-image work that aligns with the gallery’s core themes, including:

  • A celebration of roots and community

  • Cultural resilience in the face of struggle and survival

  • Experiences of displacement, belonging, loss, and joy

  • Carrying culture across borders and across generations
